This past weekend BarkZone was at Montavilla Street Fair supporting the festivities and all the fair goers (and pups!). With the heat wave still in full effect, we took a goodwill approach to our canopy this year. There were games and prizes to be had but more importantly there was shade, water and doggie sno-cones. It was all about the dogs and making sure we did our due diligence to assist in keeping them hydrated during the fair.
For the event we prepared dog friendly fruit syrups; in the flavors of watermelon and coconut, as well as using chicken and turkey broth for our meat flavored sno- cone. Topped with a blueberry, banana, or coconut flakes; they were a hit and I got to play doggie barista for the day.
Water bowls were distributed to the vendors and refilled regularly for all the passersby. By three in the afternoon temperatures had hit 100 degrees and the street was hot to the touch, but together as a community we were able to provide shaded walkways on the sidewalk. Almost everywhere you looked there was free water and businesses offering their shade to any people or dogs who looked like they maybe had a bit too much sun.
Our on site groomer, Cody, was out doing nail trims to anyone who needed one and chatted up regulars and fair goers alike. Overall it was a great opportunity for all of us at BarkZone to connect more genuinely with our neighborhood. Be on the lookout for us at future events in town and definitely come over and say hi.
